You can help inspire and activate a new generation of activists. With your partnership we can capitalize on the theatrical release of HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE this September to ensure the next generation sees the film…and is moved into action.
HOW TO SURVIVE A PLAGUE keeps alive the history of how a marginalized community rose up to combat the AIDS epidemic and saved millions of lives. Especially for GLBT youth hungry for heroes, the film is a rare portrait of real-life role models. What’s more, it inspires young people in the audience to become activists themselves and at a time of increasing AIDS apathy spurs them to help end AIDS once and for all. We just need to get them to the theaters on September 21 and beyond.
We are working with both seasoned activist leaders and their youth counterparts to create a comprehensive grassroots strategy to be deployed in each film market. To engage audiences, and ultimately fuel social change, we have
Here’s how you can help make sure our history is not forgotten: Underwrite blocks of the campaign, or adopt a city, or donate as a Partner at the $5,000 - $10,000 level. Give where you live. Give where you went to school. Or, let us direct the funds to where people need it most.
Outreach & Engagement Support
Well-recognized as powerful groups bridging the generations, grassroots activist organizers HealthGAP/SGAC and HIV Prevention Justice Alliance (HIV*PJA) are working in communities alongside other health care justice organizations to organize groups to see the film and host ’Meet-Ups” to engage people into action. These nonprofits need an additional $32,000 to fund their outreach in communities across the U.S. Your donation allows them to do the outreach for the film and at the same time build their membership to strengthen them for future advocacy.
Underwriting Ticket Costs
In order to help young people see the film, we will offer a block of tickets at each screening for free to students, people under 30, and to AIDS service organizations staff members coordinated by our outreach partners.
In New York City, the film will screen at the IFC Theatre in the heart of Greenwich Village where it all began. Help us ensure every NYU, SVA, New School and other college student who wants to see the film can see it free and make the opening weekend of September 21-23 all about fighting against AIDS and for health care justice. It will take $40,000 to make this possible.
In 13 other cities across the country, $10,000 per market is needed to meet the demand. Cities include but may not be limited to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, L.A., Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle Washington DC.
All donors will be recognized by level via a special thanks on the film’s website and Facebook page and can choose to have their gift as a dedication ‘In Memory Of’ a loved one.
